What You Should Do to Prepare For a Balloon Safari in the Serengeti

You have your logistics sorted, your accommodation arranged, and the date for your balloon safari in the Serengeti all set. Well done! We know you can’t wait to experience your first safari from the sky. If this is not your first time, you simply cannot wait to see what nature has in store for you this time.

While these provisions seem to be sufficient in terms of preparation, there are more things to do before your balloon safari to ensure a smooth experience.

First-timers will find this list helpful, and if it’s not your first time, we hope you enjoy this reminder.

Let’s look at some things that you need to do before your balloon safari in the Serengeti, to fully enjoy the experience. You can also watch this flight briefing video to get an idea on what you should do to prepare

Sleep early the night before Balloon Safari

We do our balloon safaris early in the morning. You will need to leave from your accommodation facility at dawn, so don’t stay up too late the night before and risk going sleep-deprived on your balloon safari in the Serengeti

It should go without saying, but we will say it anyway, don’t drink too much the night before. Avoid consuming too much alcohol the night before your ride as a hangover, topped with the height of the balloon ride, will ruin your experience.

Request a Wake Up Call From Your Hotel Reception

It’s not enough to sleep early, you also need to wake up early and be on time. Most hotels do offer a wake-up call service free of charge. You can use the service to make sure that you have enough time to get ready for the trip. We advise setting the wake-up call for 30 to 45 minutes before the pickup time.

Charge up

A balloon safari in the Serengeti is an experience with unique moments to capture. There are amazing aerial views of wildlife and the overall landscape. Don’t believe us? Have a look at the photos from our gallery.

Make sure your electrical devices like mobile phones and cameras are fully charged so that you can take great pictures and videos from your balloon safari.

Prepare Warm Clothes The Night Before

As you will be leaving early in the morning, the weather is normally chilly. You might also feel cold & uncomfortable at the launch site as you get a safety briefing from our experienced pilots.

We advise you to wear layers of clothing so that you are protected from the morning breeze. As an additional note, make sure the pants you wear on the day allow for flexible movement. You’ll need to climb in and out of the balloon so clothing that allows you to bend easily is the best choice.

Listen to Your Pilot Before the Flight

As with any other activity, there is always a bit of risk involved when riding a balloon high in the sky. Our pilots and staff are well-trained and take every safety precaution possible to make sure your trip is a safe and pleasant one.

Part of the measures taken is to provide you with a safety briefing before every flight. We advise you to stay attentive and listen to the pilot to ensure a safe ride.

Wear Comfortable & Closed Shoes

We want to ensure you get the best experience out of your balloon safari. Believe it or not, what you wear on your feet can have a huge impact in this respect.

It’s always best to get shoes that are closed and fit you comfortably. The reason for this is that it might be damp at the launching and landing site and no one likes the feeling of soggy feet.

Wear a Hat If You Have Long Hair

For the best experience for you and the other passengers, we advise tucking your hair when the balloon is taking off and landing. There might be strong winds at the time that might make your hair blow everywhere.

By wearing a hat/tucking your hair, you’re making it easier for yourself and others to enjoy the “Miracle Experience”.

Carry Only Your Essential Things During the Flight

We want you to fly and cruise over the Serengeti as lightly as possible. You don’t need to bring everything you brought with you on the car ride to the Safari.

Carry only the essentials such as binoculars, sunglasses, and cameras to capture those rare moments. Feel free to leave them in the car and they’ll be provided to you after landing. Trust us, your items are safe with us.

Medicate Accordingly

If you have a history of motion sickness, or if heights make you feel sick, taking appropriate medication will help give you a smooth experience. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen before you hop on your balloon ride.

Visit the Loo Before the Flight

Once you start your trip for the balloon safari, it might be hours before you can access a toilet facility. Make sure you empty your bladder before embarking on this wonderful adventure. Unlike a game drive, there’s no stopping in the middle of a balloon safari.

Secure your belongings during a balloon safari

Keep Your Belongings Secured

You’ll most likely have a camera, a phone, or even sunglasses with you during the Safari. We advise you to have all these essentials secured during the flight.

Make sure they’re strapped down and close to you. You can use a neck or wrist strap to secure your items. Our Balloon can fly quite high and it’d be a shame to lose your equipment during the flight.

Don’t Worry About The Landing

Our pilots are experienced individuals with thousands of flight hours under their belts. With that said, the balloon landing can’t be predicted.

It could be a smooth landing with the balloon being upright, it could be a bumpy landing or the balloon could tip over. Either way, it’s a fun experience that you’ll enjoy, and don’t worry, our pilots are trained and will brief you on what to do for every scenario.

Be Ready to Celebrate!

Our goal is to make sure you get the best experience possible from your safari with us. We set our journey in the early morning as that’s the best time to get to view the nocturnal wildlife.

You can expect a nice cup of coffee with cookies at the launch site before the flight. Upon arrival, we celebrate a successful safari with champagne and drive off to a scenic location for a one-of-a-kind, Bush Breakfast. With us, you get to experience a Safari from the Sky.

We hope the above checklist helps you in preparing for your “Miracle Experience“. If there is any item of preparation that you would like to need further clarification on, please contact us, we are happy to help.
